— -- After Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, late-night talk show hosts tried to find optimism after this grueling and acrimonious campaign.

Jimmy Kimmel had some good news for his viewers.

"No matter what you feel about the result of this election, the good news is that the election is over. It's done, and finally we can look to the future," he said on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Here's how other late-night talk show hosts reacted to Trump's victory:

Conan O'Brien

"We have all been through the wringer these past few months, and today is a really strange day, very strange day. Half the country is really happy. Half the country is somewhere in between despondent and furious," he said Wednesday night on "Conan." "The optimist in me chooses today to be happy that we have fair and free elections at all. I think it's an amazing thing."

Stephen Colbert

"I'd like to try to end this election season right now by voting unanimously on a few things that all bring us together," Colbert said on "The Late Show" before the polls closed. "No matter what your age, race or political party, every American would agree that Kit Kats should be eaten in segments, not bitten into like a normal candy bar, you animal."

James Corden

The British late-night talk show host joked, "What happened last night? I went to bed early. I did have the strangest dream, though. Just kidding! The presidential election happened last night, and the good news is it's over now and everyone agrees with the outcome. People who voted for Trump are happy today. People who voted for Hillary [Clinton] are disappointed. But listen, no matter who you voted for, the important thing is you all got stickers."

Seth Meyers

"I do really feel for the parents who had to explain this to your kids this morning, especially parents with daughters, because a lot of them, like me, probably thought Hillary would be our first woman president, but she won't be. But that does mean that someone's daughter is out there who will one day have that title," he said to applause on "Late Night With Seth Meyers."

Trevor Noah

"Hillary Clinton lost by getting more votes," the South African host said to laughter on "The Daily Show." "Trump got 200,000 fewer votes, but he won the presidency because he had 279 electoral votes. Because that's how it works in America."
