Marvel Movies Teased, Plans for 'Star Wars' at Disney Parks Revealed at D23 Expo

— -- Disney's annual D23 expo in Anaheim, California, had fans in a tizzy over the weekend, thanks to a series of huge revelations from the Disney-owned worlds of Marvel and "Star Wars."
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige not only teased a massive assembled crowd about the upcoming movie "Dr. Strange," starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the neurosurgeon-turned sorcerer supreme, but also showed a "sizzle reel" from its anticipated, superhero-stocked three-quel, "Captain America: Civil War."
Cumberbatch sent his greetings via a pre-taped message -- the "Star Trek" vet cheekily waving Mr. Spock's Vulcan salute, before correcting himself with "Oh no, wrong film!" -- and called Strange an "extraordinary character."
But Feige brought the house down with his next presentation: introducing "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and "Ant-Man" star Anthony Mackie and Cap himself, Chris Evans, who presented footage of heroes fighting heroes in "Civil War."
The plot has Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark and the spangly hero facing off philosophically, and then physically, over a plan to register superheroes with the government. "Sometimes I want to punch you right in your perfect teeth," Stark reportedly hisses at Cap, in the snippet that was heavy on hero vs. hero action.
Evans later told ABC News, "I'm biased obviously, but I loved the footage, so hopefully they were just as enthusiastic as I was." Mackie agreed, saying Marvel is, "putting everybody to shame," adding, "Civil War" is "going to be the best Marvel movie."
"Civil War" hits theaters May 6, 2016, while "Dr. Strange" will debut Nov. 4, 2016.
Not to be outdone, on the "Star Wars" front, Lucasfilm showed off the first cast picture of the first "Star Wars: Anthology film, Rogue One." The snap showed stars including Felicity Jones and Donnie Yen in costume. The movie, which tracks the Rebels' attempts to steal the plans to the Death Star, opens Dec. 16, 2016.
J.J. Abrams reunited his "Force Awakens" cast members including John Boyega and Lupita Nyong'o, Oscar Isaac, and Daisy Ridley with Harrison Ford, who thanked the fans for their support of their Dec. 18, 2015, release.
"Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow was named as the director of "Star Wars: Episode IX," and Disney CEO Robert Iger unveiled new plans for "Star Wars" themed environments that will allow Disney parkgoers both in Orlando and Anaheim tour a fully immersive experience in that galaxy far, far away.
"These new lands ... will transport guests to a whole new 'Star Wars' planet," Iger teased, "including an epic 'Star Wars' adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance."
The new experience will also let visitors interact with aliens, droids and other locals, and pilot Han Solo's iconic ship, the Millennium Falcon.
"It's going to be wild," Isaac told ABC News.
