Sarah McLachlan Calls This Year's Thanksgiving Parade a 'Unifying Force'

— -- Sarah McLachlan is one of the many performers in tomorrow's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

She says she's happy to be involved even though, as a Canadian, she celebrated her Thanksgiving weeks ago.

"I have a lot of American cousins and I would almost always go down to Seattle for Thanksgiving," she told ABC News. "So we’re lucky, we get two of them. So this is really fun to be part of."

McLachlan is performing in the parade to promote her new Christmas album, "Wonderland." The timing is fitting -- she last sang in the parade 10 years ago, when she released her first holiday album, "Wintersong."

Taking part in the event is "really exciting," she said. "I mean, there’s tens of thousands of people. People come out in droves."

This year, though, she hopes the parade will be healing as well as exciting.

"I think ... in particular this time of year, considering the elections and everything, it’s a unifying force and I think we really need that," she said. "And this is a nice time for people to come together and be light, you know, and just remember what we’re thankful for."

As for McLachlan, she said that she's most thankful for her two "really, really amazing" daughters, calling them "my world's best teachers." She also is thankful for her "dear friends," some of whom have asked if they can move in with her in Canada, post-election.

"I’ve had a few requests, yup," she said with a laugh. "More than a few, actually!"
