Sept. 4 -- Christina Aguilera and Jimmy Smits will host the Latin Grammy Awards ceremony, which is being transplanted to the West Coast in a controversial decision.

The second annual event was moved from Miami to Los Angeles over concerns anti-Castro protesters, upset by the inclusion of Cuban musicians, would disrupt the festivities.

Gloria Estefan is voicing her anger over the move by announcing she will skip the Sept. 11 event, which would have brought millions to Miami.

Cuban jazz star Chucho Valdes says he still plans to attend. Valdes, who's up for two awards, told The Associated Press he is sorry politics will affect attendance.

"It's a shame that not everyone is there always," said Valdes. "I think we should all be in this: those who live on the island and those who live outside it, because we make culture, and art is a universal language."

Daddy Durst

Fred Durst is welcoming a member of the next generation.

The Limp Bizkit frontman, whose mosh pit-inspiring music is helping teens get out their angst, is now the father of a second child. His 7 pound, 3-ounce son, Dallas, was born last week. The baby's mother has not been identified.

According to MTV Online, the proud papa claims the baby, upon his arrival into the world, exclaimed a resounding "Whaasszzsuup!"

Moreover

The Beastie Boys are getting out of the record producing game. The rap/rock group has shut down its Grand Royal Records label, which was home to such acts as Luscious Jackson, Sean Lennon and Ben Lee. According to a press release, Grand Royal was suffering from "mounting debts, decreasing assets and exceedingly harsh industry conditions." Beastie Boy Mike Diamond says the label was intended "to create a home for exciting music and the people who are passionate about it it really sucks that we can't continue to do that."
