Aug. 29 -- Patti La Belle accepted her Lady of Soul Train Award and immediately said she wanted another singer to take the honor.

La Belle, who received the Lena Horne Award for outstanding career achievement Tuesday night, used the moment to pay tribute to Aaliyah. The 22-year-old was killed in a weekend plane crash.

"I'm just accepting this for Aaliyah because pretty soon in her life, she would've gotten this," La Belle said during the awards show taping.

Aaliyah's song "Try Again" was nominated for R&B or Rap Song of the Year. The award went to gospel singer Yolanda Adams for "Open My Heart."

Jill Scott took home a leading three awards, including Entertainer of the Year.

Nelly Furtado, Moby to Honor John Lennon

Imagine a lot of celebrities, singing John Lennon's songs

The lineup for TNT's upcoming tribute concert includes Nelly Furtado, Moby, Stone Temple Pilots, Seal and Lou Reed.

The event, set for Sept. 20 at Radio City Music Hall, will feature clips of Lennon talking about violence and the future along with the musical numbers.

Oscar winner Kevin Spacey is set to host the event, which will air on what would have been John's 61 birthday, Oct. 9.

Lennon was shot and killed by a deranged fan on Dec. 8, 1980. Proceeds will benefit anti-gun charities.

'Missing You' Singer Returns

John Waite is not waiting any longer to make a comeback.

The singer, whose song "Missing You" was a popular hit in the 1980s, is out with a new CD, Figures in a Landscape."I'd been waiting in the wings to make a record for a long time," said Waite.

He says he was totally prepared when a record deal was recently offered.

"I had all these songs on the bench so I thought, OK we'll just throw 'em together and see if it hangs together as a record," said Waite.

He says the album is a mix of love songs and tunes about breaking up. As for his most recognizable hit, he was surprised it's the one that caught on with audiences.
