August 13 -- Ben Affleck took a break from rehab to accept an award at the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night.

The Pearl Harbor actor, who is currently in treatment at the Promises center in Malibu, Calif., for alcohol abuse, picked up two awards, including one for favorite actor. "I actually wasn't going to be here, but I felt like it was important, because this actually means a lot to me because it's voted on by you guys," he said.

According to US Weekly, Promises sanctions outings for its celebrity patients and can send a counselor along with a client for such occasions.

It's not yet known whether Affleck will make Wednesday night's Los Angeles premiere of the new Kevin Smith film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, in which he co-stars.

Meanwhile, other winners at the Teen Choice Awards included 'N Sync, picking up awards for best single ("Pop") and for best album; Britney Spears, who was named favorite female artist; and girl group Destiny's Child, which beat out 'N Sync, O-Town, and The Backstreet Boys to win favorite pop group.

Sounding like a class valedictorian, Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar accepted the award for extraordinary achievement by saying, "I'm honored that all of you guys think I'm a role model. So believe in yourself and go for it."

The show was held at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles and will air Aug. 20 on Fox. Votes were cast online and in forms published in Seventeen magazine.
