May 17 -- Joey Fatone Stung by Trapdoor

Don't tell 'N Sync's Joey Fatone to "break a leg" on the eve of his band's upcoming PopOdyssey tour. The singer almost took that advice literally when a trapdoor malfunctioned onstage during a rehearsal, according to the New York Daily News. Fatone had to be taken to a hospital in New Orleans, where the band was rehearsing, but a doctor stitched him up, and he promptly caught up with his bandmates in Los Angeles to film a video for first single "Pop." Jive Records says the singer is fine, and the May 23 start date for the tour will not be affected. Yesterday the band canceled one of its three Boston shows because a radio show held days earlier will not give the crew sufficient setup time, according to the 'N Sync camp.

Alanis Bails Out Broadway Musical

Canadian singer Alanis Morissette plugged $150,000 into Broadway musical Jane Eyre to keep it on its feet for an extra week, at least. When she heard the $6.5 million production was coming to an end May 20, after 185 shows, she decided to breathe some new life into it, because she's a fan of the show based on a 19th century novel by Charlotte Bronte and is a friend of show composer Paul Gordon. The production now may stay open until the June 3 Tony Awards, for which it has received five nominations. Many critics will be pleased she decided not to intervene with Seussical, a famed but less praised show that is set to close May 20.

Björk to Perform Album at New York Church

Icelandic singer Björk will debut songs from her new album, Vespertine, at a May 22 performance at Riverside Church in New York. The very few tickets for the show will go on sale Friday through the singer's Web site, www.bjork.com. She will be joined in the two 45-minute sets by San Francisco electronic experimental group Matmos and harpist Zeena Parkins both of whom perform on Vespertine. The album, originally scheduled for a May release, is now set to hit record stores Aug. 28.
