Halle Berry Files Libel Lawsuit

Actress Halle Berry and her musician husband, Eric Benét, are still newlyweds, but that didn't stop the Star tabloid from saying that their marriage is "on the rocks."

Berry and Benét responded with a $5 million libel lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday. In the suit, the couple accuses the tabloid of invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress.

In a statement, the couple said the article published last week was "offensive and baseless" and that its allegations that Benét and his daughter from a previous relationship had "moved out of Halle's house" and that the musician "was looking for a condo of his own" are untrue.

The couple wed secretly in January after a year-and-a-half-long engagement.

The actress, who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her lead role in the HBO film Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, is still on probation after pleading no contest to leaving the scene of an auto accident last year.
