February 5 -- As if they needed more details of Russell Crowe's life to obsess over, fans of the Gladiator star's band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, are pondering whether one of his new songs is about ex-flame Meg Ryan, as MSNBC's Jeannette Walls points out.

The song "Wendy" contains lyrics such as "Wendy's got a little boy/ Someone to keep in mind for the future/ She's got no husband who cares" and "Now don't you put her down/ She tried to do it right/ Sometimes things don't come out/ Quite, quite, quite the way we plan them."

Ryan, who endured a storm of media attention when she split from her husband of nine years, Dennis Quaid, and went public with her affair with Crowe, does have a son, Jack.

The Crowe-Ryan affair apparently ended sometime before the holidays. According to the New York Daily News, Crowe's ties to Australia and Ryan's ties to Los Angeles, where she shares custody of Jack with Quaid, proved to be an insurmountable obstacle.

The woman to whom Crowe was linked in the tabloids before Ryan, namely pal Jodie Foster, was also reportedly the inspiration for another "Grunt" song, "Other Ways of Speaking."

Back in September, the Daily News quoted Crowe from an unidentified Australian TV interview as saying that "Other Ways" is about "meeting somebody that you think that [you] could easily fall in love with but they, ah, they in fact play for a different team."

At the time, Foster's rep told the tab, "I don't know anything about the song. 'Playing for a different team' could mean a lot of things."

Since his split with Ryan, the New York papers have reported Crowe hitting on teenage actress Leelee Sobieski at the DreamWorks Golden Globe party. That's also where one report had the Aussie hottie linking up with Courtney Love a charge that's been hotly denied by both camps. Love's rep says that the singer-actress is still seeing record exec Jim Barber.

As for Crowe he's apparently available. At the DreamWorks bash, he spent the evening chatting with 14-year-old Jamie Bell, the British star of Billy Elliot. One of their reported topics of conversation: how to pick up girls.
