January 22 -- An auditorium full of Hollywood heavy hitters stood to applaud old salt Bob Dylan, who took the stage at the Golden Globe Awards to accept the trophy for Best Original Song.

"Things Have Changed" his song from the movie Wonder Boys seemed appropriate for the situation, as the '60s folk-rocker stood before the glitzy audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

"This is quite something, really," he told the crowd. "Thanks Hollywood Foreign Press, thanks to my band, record company, and everyone in my family. That's about it."

Dylan's folky tune beat out Björk's "I've Seen It All," from Dancer in the Dark; Sting's "My Funny Friend and Me," from The Emperor's New Groove; Steffan Olsson's "One in a Million," from Miss Congeniality; and Garth Brooks and Jenny Yates' "When You Come Back to Me Again," from Frequency.

The other musical award of the evening Best Original Score was taken by prolific Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer and former Dead Can Dance vocalist Lisa Gerrard for their music to classical epic Gladiator. The Russell Crowe-starring film also won the award for Best Drama.

At a party following the ceremony, Gerrard and Zimmer referred to their award, which Gerrard had cradled in her arms, as "their love child."

The ubiquitous Zimmer also scored the new Sean Penn film, The Pledge, and just finished the score to Ridley Scott's new film, Hannibal, on Friday, he told Mr. Showbiz. The German-born composer says of the serial-killer sequel due next month, "No one believes me, but it's a romantic love story and comedy." He promises a "big-time" love theme just in time for Valentine's Day.

A second Gladiator CD will be released soon, but Zimmer pooh-poohed the idea that he was the first composer to be so honored.

In addition to her song nomination, Icelandic singer Björk was in contention for Best Actress for her performance in Dancer in the Dark. She went home empty-handed, however, as Julia Roberts took the prize for her role in Erin Brockovich.
