Oct. 4 -- Alec Baldwin is about to make a deal with Satan in exchange for a successful life.

That is, he has been given the go-ahead to re-stage The Devil and Daniel Webster, Stephen Vincent Benets classic yarn about a man who sells his soul to the Landlord of Hades in order to have fame and fortune. When the devil comes to collect his due, the soulless gent employs the help of silver-tongued lawyer Daniel Webster.

The commitment from Hopkins solidifies the future of Baldwins directorial debut. The actor has weathered several bumps in the remake project, which he decided to do back in 1992.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin will also embody the hotshot novelist Jabez Stone, while Anthony Hopkins will portray Webster. In order to modernize the tale, the deal will go down in New York Citys literati world. Stone has 10 years (rather than a lifetime) of glory as a writer before the devil comes a-knockin. Hopkins Webster is the head of a publishing empire, while Satan will be a she-devil.

Baldwin and Hopkins previously teamed up in the David Mamet wilderness drama, The Edge. Tony is just my favorite actor, period, Baldwin gushed to the Reporter. When he said yes, I thought, How could I be any luckier?

Hopkins will head over to The Devil and Daniel Webster as soon as he wraps the Stephen King drama Hearts in Atlantis. Baldwin just finished the $135 million Pearl Harbor.
