The 'Brit Pack' Gets Wilder Than Ever
Dec. 2, 2006 — -- Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are no strangers to the lucrative possibilities of sex appeal.
Spears introduced legions of young girls to the allure of skimpy Catholic-school uniforms and bare midriffs in music videos like "…Baby One More Time" and "You Drive Me Crazy."
Lohan, at the tender age of 20, has become a tabloid mainstay for her catfights and proclivity for partying, despite a mainly PG-rated resume.
And Hilton -- well, Hilton's fame is based on sex, from her pouting, come-hither red-carpet demeanor to the unauthorized release of a private sex tape.
But this week, the three took the sex-kitten image to new heights, putting public tiffs behind them to make a series of drunken, short-skirted, underwear-less appearances together all over Los Angeles.
Spears, mother of two, was captured sans panties no less than four times.
Even for these confirmed party girls, it was bizarre behavior -- enough to prompt Lohan's publicist to announce by week's end that Lohan was attending AA meetings, though she cautioned that the move didn't mean the underage actress would "stop drinking tomorrow."
What's going on here? And what, if anything, do these three confirmed "it" girls owe -- in the way of decorum -- to their legions of impressionable teenage fans, who have been hooked on them since "Mean Girls," "The Simple Life," and "Oops! … I Did It Again"?
A great deal, according to image consultant Sandy Dumont.
"I think she's done a terrible disservice to young adults," Dumont says, referring to young mother Spears. "When you've got two small children, you've got to be more responsible."
Spears' late-night partying picked up three weeks ago, following the announcement that she was filing for divorce from rapper Kevin Federline. The paparazzi shots of the under-dressed pop princess prompted Rosie O'Donnell, host of ABC's "The View," to plead publicly on the show, "I want Britney to move in with me and Kelli and the kids. She's going through a hard time. I think she needs a stable family around her."
