Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor and Justin Bieber Among Nominees for 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards
The fan-voted awards honor artists popular with kids.
— -- Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, One Direction and Meghan Trainor are among the nominees for the 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards, Radio Disney announced Friday.
The fan-voted awards -- which recognize artists who are popular with children and younger teens -- will be held April 30 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The event will be televised May 1 on the Disney Channel, and highlights will be available on Radio Disney, the Radio Disney App, the Disney Channel app and RadioDisney.com.
Trainor, who is nominated in the “She’s the One – Best Female Artist” category, was surprised to be nominated -- and reaction was documented in a YouTube video. In the video posted Wednesday on Radio Disney’s YouTube channel, the “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” singer is filmed chatting on a set with singer/actress Sabrina Carpenter.
Trainor thought she was filming a promotional video for the RDMAs, but was taken by surprise when, during the shooting, Carpenter told her she had been nominated. Confetti exploded on the set, then Trainor and Carpenter hugged.
"Oh, my God, this is a big deal," Trainor said.
Other nominees include rapper Silento in the "Move! - Best Song To Dance To” category, DNCE (fronted by Joe Jonas) in the “The Freshest – Best New Artist” category and country pop singer Kelsea Ballerini for “Radio Disney Country Favorite Artist" category.
Voting for the RDMAs is open now through April 10. Votes may be cast at Disney.com/RDMA, the Radio Disney app, Google OneBox and via Radio Disney's Facebook and Twitter profiles.
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 11 at AXS.com/RDMA.
