The MTV Video Music Awards have promised to be explosive this year, with performances by the likes of Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Sam Smith. "It's one of those moments in popular culture which I think is a must-watch," said VMA executive producer Garrett English about the show. "There are things that happen on the VMA stage that you will be talking about for weeks, months, and in the case of Miley Cyrus, years after." The must-watch moment of the night promises to be a performance by Beyoncé, English said, but if this show is anything like the telecasts that have come before it, viewers' jaws are sure to drop throughout the night.

Moments after singer debuted her growing baby bump on the red carpet in 2011, she took to the stage to sing "Love On Top." "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me!" Beyoncé told the screaming crowd. At the end of the performance, she unbuttoned her jacket, and rubbed her belly as father-to-be Jay Z grinned from the crowd.

Kanye West Interrupts Taylor Swift

In 2009, Taylor Swift won the award for Best Female Video for her song, "You Belong to Me." However, Kanye West, who believed the Moonman should have gone to Beyoncé for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)," would have none of it. After walking on stage, West took the microphone out of Swift's hand and famously told her, "Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time." As the crowd booed, West shrugged and walked off stage while Swift stood there, bewildered.

For a few years, Britney Spears's performances were a highlight of the VMAs. 2001, the year after the "Oops! I Did It Again" singer stripped down during a performance of "Satisfaction," was no exception. That year, the pop star's performance of "Slave 4 U" featured a tiger in a cage and Spears wearing a snake -- and not much else.
