March 16, 2005 — -- We all know that accounting, health care and technology experts are in demand, but what if those aren't your interests? Fortunately, there are other hot career paths that are ideal for women, and since women are currently under-represented in these fields, there's a growing emphasis on recruiting them. Consider learning more and applying today.

Tory Johnson, chief executive officer of WomenForHire.com and the author of "Women For Hire: The Ultimate Guide to Getting a Job," offers her advice on a range of hot career opportunities.

Why It's Hot: With the emergence of women earning more money than previous generations as well as their recognition of the importance and necessity of controlling their own finances, financial services firms have significantly increased their efforts to recruit women to the role of financial advisers. Women are now buying more financial services (life insurance, retirement planning, etc), and they like to buy from people they relate to, which is why women do very well selling to other women.

Myth Buster: Traditionally, women have shunned this role partially because it's an industry long dominated by men and known for long hours and non-stop number crunching. But as a financial adviser, you don't need a degree in finance or accounting, you don't have to follow the Dow daily and you don't need a passion for Wall Street.

Apply Today: As a financial adviser, you're running your own business with the backing and support of a corporate giant. This career path focuses heavily on building and nurturing relationships, which women are naturally very good at. Many large financial services firms offer paid training for about one year, which ranges from $30,000 to $60,000 annually, and then it's commission-based as you sell financial products and services, such as retirement planning, long-term care or life insurance, and related products. Expect to grow your compensation from there -- six figures is not far-fetched for successful candidates.
