Arrest Imminent in Death of Hollywood Producer's Wife
Mexican police: There are inconsistencies in Bruce Beresford-Redman's story.
April 12, 2010— -- Mexican authorities investigating the murder of Monica Beresford-Redman are finding numerous inconsistencies in her husband's story and say an arrest could be imminent.
Former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman has been in Mexico since being named by police as the chief suspect in the death of his wife.
Her body was found in a sewer at the posh Cancun resort where the couple was reportedly working on their marital troubles.
Although he has not been charged, Beresford-Redman has met with a high-profile Mexican attorney best known for successfully defending Duane Chapman, otherwise known as "Dog, the Bounty Hunter," when he was accused of illegally arresting a convicted rapist.
Police believe Beresford-Redman's wife, who was reported missing Monday, April 5 and found on Thursday April 8, her 42nd birthday, was strangled. Hotel guests reported hearing the couple fighting in the hours before police believe she was killed.
Bruce Beresford-Redman,38, also the former producer of MTV's "Pimp My Ride," is now under the control of the U.S. consulate in Merida, a three-hour drive from Cancun. Mexican and U.S. authorities have promised he will not leave Mexico until the investigation into his wife's death is complete.
The couple's two children, Alex and Camilla, are back in Los Angeles. A judge has granted temporary custody to Bruce Beresford-Redman's parents, but Monica Beresford-Redman's parents are now fighting for custody.
Friends in Los Angeles held a candlelight vigil for Monica Beresford-Redman on Sunday at the popular Brazilian restaurant she owned.
"This place is all we have left," friend Jane Guimaraes said. "All the memories are here."
