Matt Damon Ties the Knot
Dec. 9, 2005 — -- Like his longtime pal Ben Affleck, Matt Damon is now a married man, and they soon may be arranging play dates for their kids.
US Weekly is reporting that the 35-year-old Oscar winner and his girlfriend Luciana Barroso exchanged vows in a brief ceremony this morning officiated by a justice of the peace.
Damon proposed to his 30-year-old bride shortly before Labor Day. They have been dating two years, and she is three months pregnant.
US is reporting that Barroso's six-year-old daughter, Alexa, from a previous relationship, witnessed the wedding at New York's City Hall.
Damon's publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed the wedding to ABC News, and said that Affleck was not in attendance. Damon has been in New York, where he is shooting "The Good Shepherd" with Robert De Niro and Angelina Jolie.
Since his breakthrough in 1997's "Good Will Hunting," Damon has dated a series of beauties including Minnie Driver, Winona Ryder and Claire Danes, but was never married. Barroso, who was married once before, previously worked as a bartender and interior designer. The couple lives in a $10.3 million Miami Beach mansion.
In his latest movie, "Syriana," Damon plays an international financier whose son is electrocuted and killed while swimming in the pool of an Arab prince. In the movie, Damon grieves, but then turns the tragedy into a business opportunity.
Shortly before he announced his engagement, Damon told the World Entertainment News Network that he was eager to enter the world of fatherhood. His buddy Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner welcomed their first child, a daughter, last Thursday.
"I have longed for [kids] in real life, anyway," Damon said. "I just have to learn how to be a disciplinarian. Now I'm good at winding kids up, but I'm not so good at chilling them out."
