Celebs Go Green at Pre-Oscar Gala
Feb. 22, 2007 — -- In addition to all the gold you'll see at the Oscars, you'll also see a lot of "green."
Some celebrities are eschewing long limousines in favor of riding in eco-friendly cars to the ceremony.
Global Green was the host of a gala Wednesday night, which attracted Hollywood stars interested in environmental issues. For the night, the traditional Hollywood red carpet at the entrance to the party was, literally, green.
Oscar nominee Penelope Cruz is just one of the stars trading in the Oscar gold for a little green to highlight Hollywood's hot issue: global warming.
"It's something … where everyone can contribute," Cruz told "Good Morning America's" Sam Champion.
"If there's no nature, there's no us," model Petra Nemcova said at the gala.
Orlando Bloom agreed.
"It's the legacy that's gonna be left for our children," Bloom said.
The celebrities all arrived to the party in a green car. The hottest new green car is the Tesla, an electric car that has zero emissions and goes from zero to 60 in less than four seconds.
"Our buildings and our transportation are two of the greatest contributors to global warming," said Matt Petersen, CEO of Global Green USA.
Singer James Blunt said he believed it was an essential issue for everyone.
"It's important for all of us, at whatever level, be it individuals, or politicians," Blunt said.
