a hot trend in staying fit while pregnant. It's called crossfit. It involves weight lifting and intense cardio. Now doctors are concerned it might be a bit too intense for moms to be. Linsey Davis checked it out. Reporter: Celebrities from Elizabeth banks to Paula patden credit the extreme workout crossfit with whipping them into shape. The intense cross-training is not for the feint of heart. Sit safe for pregnant women? Pregnancy and childbirth is strenuous. I'm training for it daily. Reporter: Candace is 27 weeks pregnant. She's been a crossfit fanatic for eight years. When I met with my midwife, she was very comfortable with the fact that as long as I listened to my body I could continue training. So I did. Reporter: But these images are kree eight buzz on the internet. Lee Yan, a 33-week pregnant California woman lifting 75 pounds. Life is dangerous. I'm not going to stop living it. Reporter: Critics sounded off calling her workout with child sickening and stupid. Is she putting herself and her baby at risk? Megan may, a crossfit trainer says if approved by a doctor, there are safe ways to do it. Crossfit national says they don't have official guidelines on using their system while pregnant. They say it's different for everyone. While the workout can be intense, we can scale it to make it appropriate for any population. Meanwhile, Candace has scaled back a bit. I no longer go for my heaviest attempts at weight lifting. Reporter: While she may crossfit until her due date, I'm following doctors orders by listening to my body. I may not be able to do this. Literally up until she gave birth. You're cringing. I am. Exercise is terrific. Anything that could put you or the baby in jeopardy, tumbling off a surfboard, it's dangerous. What do you recommend? What about the crossfit? The extreme crossfit I worry about. Anyone starting an exercise program, check with a doctor. Exercise in pregnancy is good for your heart. It's good for your mood, sleep, flexibility. It will help you through labor and delivery. It's a good thing to do. You have to be careful. If you're already doing something, you keep doing it? As long as it's something safe. Anything involving plans. Horseback riding, skateboarding, skiing, I would avoid. The weight will shift your balance. The joints get loose because of pregnancy. You have to be careful. What would you suggest for pregnant women of all anls, shapes, sizes, weights? So you know, if you like it rkts you're likely to stick with it. If you like to walk, continue to walk. Swimming is a wonderful exercise. That's the best. A stable exercise bike. After the first trimester, nothing flat on your back. The weight of the belly can cut down on the blood flow to the uterus. And my favorite is pregnancy yoga. It focuses on the breathing, flexibility, strength. I still use my pregnancy yoga tape.
