Now to capitol hill where senator Al Franken is expected to make that announcement about his future as calls grow for him to resign from members of his own party over accusations of sexual misconduct. Dozens of democratic senators now say he should step aside. Our senior congressional correspondent Mary Bruce has the very latest from Washington. Good morning, Mary. Reporter: Good morning, robin. The chorus calling for Franken to go is deafening. It started yesterday when yet another accuser came forward. Shortly after a handful of democratic women said enough is enough. A coordinated push that forced open the floodgates and now at least 39 senators say Franken should resign and later today Franken will announce his response. Facing an avalanche of calls for him to go. We need to draw a line in the sand and say none of it is okay. Reporter: This morning multiple democratic sources tell ABC news that senator Al Franken is expected to announce his resignation. The second high-profile lawmaker forced out over allegations of sexual misconduct. Proudbably in the best interest of a lot of people for him to resign. Today's revelations just further add to a fact pattern here that's just unacceptable. Reporter: The allegations against Franken have been piling up. Two more accusers came out Wednesday bringing the total to eight. One reportedly says Franken tried to forcibly kiss her and that he told her it's my right as an entertainer. Franken called that allegation categorically not true and preposterous. I am embarrassed. I feel ashamed. Reporter: Franken has apologized to other accusers and tried to turn the page calling for an ethics investigation. And for weeks that seemed to be enough for Democrats. I know there are no magic words that I can say to regain your trust. Reporter: But on capitol hill, that trust from his colleagues appears to be gone. Now, behind the scenes I'm told democraticed leader chuck Schumer has been urging Franken to resign making the case on the phone and in person over the last 4 hours for him to step aside.
