It's part of a major overhaul. And rebecca jarvis is here with much more on that. Rebecca? Reporter: Good morning. They're calling it the biggest redesign since the iphone was introduced in 2007. Apple playing up its cool factor with a complete overhaul of what you see on the screen of your tablet and phone. Call it extreme makeover, the iphone edition. The biggest change to ios since the iphone. Reporter: This morning, apple is remodeling nearly everything about how your phone looks and feels. The wood grain and leather, replaced with bold colors, cleanclean er icons. Even the ability to choose if siri is a woman or a man. And the series of iphone thefts, the company is adding a remote killswitch, which makes it impossible for anyone to reuse a stolen iphone. What I want to ask is why the hell I have to keep updating the apps on my iphone all the time. And why you don't fix that. Reporter: After complaints about those constant updates, apple says, your apps will now update automatically. This is the biggest change we've seen apple make to its software for the iphone and ipad since, well, the invention of the iphone. Reporter: The i-lift comes after complaints the company had lost its cool, losing ground to hipper competitors, like samsung. No need to wander around the room, bumping your phone. Reporter: But it's been a bumpy road for apple. Usually the innovator in sleek design, now playing catchup to rival systems like android. Apple had to do this because of the competition. They've seen the competitors come up and running. They have to keep up pace with them. Reporter: The big unveil included apple's iradio. It's a streaming music service that leds users subscribe and listen to music for free as long as they listen to ads. There's a little bit of a catch. Rebecca, thanks so much.
