Transcript for Last Known Image of Slain North Carolina Guidance Counselor Released
to that murder of a popular high school teacher in north Carolina. She was found dead in her apartment two weeks ago and police released this photo taken by a security camera. Last known picture of Maggie alive. Gio Benitez has the story. Reporter: She was the teacher everyone loved and someone murdered. She always had a smile on her face. You know, was always willing to help somebody. She went the extra mile. Reporter: This morning police are studying surveillance cameras to retrace the last steps of 31-year-old Maggie Daniel, teacher, coach and motion recently a counselor at this high school near Charlotte, North Carolina. This newly released image shows her shopping with a friend at Walmart hours before her death two weeks ago. We're trying to narrow it down and pin the point where she was and on that day, the 27th. Reporter: Neighbors found the 2011 teacher of the year dead in her apartment. She was in there laying down. I didn't even want to touch her. Is she alive or not. I'm not sure at all. Reporter: Investigators will not say how she was killed only that there was no sign of forced entry. Not a surprise because neighbors say she often left her front door open for students to stop by. I would say the police are looking at every person that she regularly has associated with, had contact with and probably the two weeks prior to her death. This former student says he saw Daniels the day before her body was found. Just taking out her trash and I said hey and she said hey and I told her to have a good day and last time I saw her. Reporter: Students gathered at her former school for a memorial service. She had that personality that connected her with students and adults. Reporter: Police say no suspects and no answers why someone would kill an educator beloved by so many. For "Good morning America," gio Benitez, ABC news, America. Incredibly tragic.
