August 14, 2010— -- This week's Your Three Words features Two Door Cinema Club's "Something Good Can Work," the first single off their debut album "Tourist History."

Schoolmates Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday formed TDCC three years ago outside Belfast, Ireland, when they were only fifteen years old. After Halliday mispronounced the name of their local hangout (the Tudor Cinema) while discussing band names, they switched up the spelling and Two Door Cinema Club stuck.

Initially a four-piece rock group, the original drummer later departed, and the remaining trio began experimenting with a laptop to create quirkier, more adventurous beats. Their style soon ventured into indie-pop territory, with catchy songs interwoven with electronic and post-punk elements wrapped up into two- to four-minute morsels.

The band first earned gigs based on the popularity of two songs posted on MySpace, and decided to turn their backs on university life to pursue music careers. This risk paid off when they were signed to French label Kitsune in 2009 and received radio support for their debut single "Something Good Can Work."

They then joined forces with indie label Glassnote Records, and in the spring of 2010 released "Tourist History" in the U.S. The album was well-received, producing an iTunes Single of the Week with "Something Good Can Work" and song placements on television and in video games, as well as a live performance on ABC's own "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

A quick Internet search reveals TDCC's impressive online presence, including features on AOL's The Interface, Yahoo's The New Now, and notable indie music blogs BrooklynVegan and Stereogum. Even Kanye West has paid tribute to the band by posting their single "I Can Talk" on his own blog.

While their sound is difficult to pigeonhole, comparisons to Bloc Party, Editors, The Futureheads and other post-millennial rock-electro artists abound. Known for their energetic live shows, they've enlisted a drummer to join them onstage and are currently in the midst of an extensive world tour with labelmates Phoenix.
