— -- Question: Should I be on a low-carb diet or a low-fat diet?

Answer: For individuals with diabetes, it's not recommended that you follow a low-carbohydrate diet or a diet with less than 130 grams of carbohydrates per day. And that's because carbohydrates are actually a very import part of a healthy diet. Carbohydrates include items such as fruits, vegetables, grains and low-fat milks. Those are very important for you to have as part of a healthy diet.

A low-fat diet may, however, be something that you should follow. It's something that you and your physician should discuss. But a low fat-diet might help you with weight loss and also help you improve your cardiovascular risk factors such as your lipid levels. So that's something you and your physician should consider but I would recommend that you may want to follow a low-fat diet.
