Answer: The best class of medications that's been shown to prevent heart failure are drugs called ACE inhibitors or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. A related class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers may work as well. And once the heart's been damaged, beta blockers in particular can delay the onset of congestive heart failure.
