How Does Drinking Alcohol Affect The Risk Of Developing Prostate Cancer?

Question: How does drinking alcohol affect the risk of developing prostate cancer?

Robert Nadler, M.D., Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Answer: I know of no risk between heavy alcohol consumption and prostate cancer, such that you might see with liver disease, for example. Although there have been studies that have shown that limited consumption of red wine, which is an antioxidant, may help to prevent prostate cancer. But for as many studies that show that red wine is beneficial, there really is many that show that it has virtually no effect in preventing prostate cancer.
