March 16, 2009 -- Question: What is a bilateral orchiectomy?

Answer: Bilateral orchiectomy is the simple surgical removal of the testicles. It's one of the oldest forms of treating prostate cancer, first discovered to be effective about 60 years ago. And it stops the source of testosterone in the body, and thereby stops feeding prostate cancer cells that may have spread elsewhere in the body.
