US Military Release on Operation in Northern Iraq

JAN. 11, 2007 — -- BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Coalition forces conducted routine security operations in northern Iraq and took six individuals into custody suspected of being closely tied to activities targeting Iraqi and Coalition forces on Jan. 11.

This operation was part of an ongoing effort by Coalition forces targeting individuals involved in activities aimed at the killing of Iraqi citizens and Coalition forces.

The suspects surrendered without incident.

The operation is currently ongoing. Further details will be released as they become available.

This operation is in support of the Coalition's effort to contribute to the maintenance of security and stability in Iraq, as called for in United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1546 and 1723.

The Coalition will continue to work with the Government of Iraq to prevent interference by hostile actors in Iraq's internal security affairs.
