Heartbroken boy receives 'do-over' birthday party from strangers
For 7-year-old Adonai Gutierrez, the second party was the charm.
— -- Adonai Gutierrez was overwhelmed with emotions after being thrown a “do-over” birthday party.
The 7-year-old and his mother, Maria Lopez, initially planned his party at Woodside Park in Woodland, California. She had set up a table with gift bags and cupcakes, but after waiting for hours, no one showed up.
Gutierrez told local ABC affiliate KXTV, “I was like, why did I even have a birthday if nobody came?”
His aunt then turned to the “Good Neighbors of Woodland” Facebook page for support.
“The next morning I woke up to my phone with a whole bunch of notifications and I was like, 'What’s going on?'" Lopez told KXTV.
On Sunday, April 30, the group threw a surprise birthday party complete with donations of food, birthday cakes and a bounce house.
According to KXTV, around 200 people showed up to welcome Gutierrez and sing him Happy Birthday.
