The morning shows led with roadblock coverage of recent violence in Iraq, followed quickly by roadblock coverage of the dismissal of Juror #5 in the Scott Peterson trial.

Nicole Devenish

Bush-Cheney Communications Director Nicolle Devenish made her second appearance in two days on the talk show circuit, answering softball questions on "Fox and Friends."

"I think that the more people have seen of Sen. Kerry, the less they like what they see and hear," Devenish said about a recent Pew poll that gave Bush high marks and Kerry lower marks. "The weeks that we haven't seen the most of him are the weeks that he's done the very best."

When asked about former Vice President Gore ("obviously being trotted out as the Kerry attack dog," questioner E.D. Hill said) and his plan to accuse the Administration of lying about Iraq's link with al Qaeda today, Devenish called Gore part of "Kerry's coalition of the wild-eyed. And I think the most interesting dynamic to watch is how John Kerry's campaign is going to bridge from what I'm sure he hopes to convey is a more reasonable message to the wild-eyed-rage-filled speeches of Al Gore and the Michael Moore movie."

To end the interview weatherman/questioner Steve Doocy asked about "early returns" in the "2004 Election Cookie Cook-Off" between Laura Bush's Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk cookies and Teresa Heinz Kerry's "Pumpkin Spice Cookies." Devenish said she didn't have any but expected Laura Bush's oatmeal chunk to win.

Bill Clinton

NBC's "Today Show" played the second half its interview with former President Bill Clinton.

Clinton told Katie Couric that the notion his book tour would "suck the lifeblood out of the Kerry campaign is an insult to the American people. They can walk and chew gum at the same time."

Asked about former adviser Dick Morris' suggestion that the book is a setup for a possible Hillary Clinton presidential run in 2008, Clinton quickly said, "Well I hope it's not 2008 because I hope Sen. Kerry wins this time. I will help him and so will Hillary."
