SNEAK PEEK: 'She's Worked the Night Shift, Too'?
Clinton's Latest Gambit for Working-Class Dems
February 19, 2008— -- When Hillary Clinton recently retooled her campaign following a string of losses, she decided to go all out in her bid for working-class Democrats.
She charged that Barack Obama's high-falutin' words "don't put food on the table."
She released an economic blueprint for shared prosperity.
She raised the specter that Obama would cut Social Security and raise the retirement age.
The thinking on the part of Clinton's team was that even if the former first lady could never catch up to Obama in pledged delegates, if she could get the delegate tally essentially even by doing well in places like Ohio and Pennsylvania, she could make the case to superdelegates that she (and not the ethereal Obama) is the candidate who has won the hearts and minds of the middle-class Americans who will decide the general election.
The latest ploy in Clinton's effort to win working-class Democrats is an Ohio television ad which ends with the claim that she has "worked the night shift, too." The only problem? It's not true.
Hillary Clinton has never worked the night shift.
"As the image on the screen makes pretty clear it is a reference to her habit of working late into the night," Clinton spokesman Jay Carson told ABC News' Kate Snow.

While there's no question that Clinton logs long hours as a New York senator and presidential candidate, the ad's narrator does not speak of her working into the night, but rather explicitly speaks of her working "the night shift," a term with a distinct meaning.
