Meghan McCain shares 'after-dinner talk with dad' photo

— -- Sen. John McCain is winding down his time in his native Arizona and gearing up for his return to Washington.

"Last night in beautiful #Arizona with @MeghanMcCain," the Republican lawmaker, 80, tweeted Saturday, along with a photo of himself and daughter Meghan McCain in Cornville, Arizona.

Wearing a bird-watching T-shirt and a Navy baseball cap, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee is seated outside with Meghan, 32, at a table lit by candlelight.

"After dinner talks with Dad," Meghan captioned the photo on Instagram, spelling out "Arizona loves us," using cactus and heart emojis.

Sen. McCain, who is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, earlier this month finished the first round of radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

"My father completed first round radiation/chemo," Meghan tweeted Aug. 18. "His resilience & strength is incredible. Fight goes on, here's to small wins. #f***cancer"

Sen. McCain returned to Phoenix in late July to begin treatment at the Mayo Clinic for glioblastoma. His office said he would return to the nation's capitol following the August recess.

"In accordance with the guidance of his physicians, Senator McCain is returning to Arizona to undergo further treatment at Mayo Clinic," his office said in a statement released July 28. "On Monday, July 31, he will begin a standard post-surgical regimen of targeted radiation and chemotherapy. During that time, Senator McCain will maintain a work schedule. He plans to return to Washington at the conclusion of the August recess."
