— -- Billionaire Democratic donor George Soros spoke to the Campaign for America's Future conference in Washington this morning.

Although he had little new to say, Soros in his rambling speech directly equated the shame of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal with the aftermath of Sept. 11 -- comments bound to increase the agitas that he creates for many Republicans.

Soros has contributed nearly $20 million to Democratic and Democratic-leaning causes over the past few years, making him the single largest donor to Democrats, progressives and liberals in the U.S.

"The pictures of Abu Ghraib hit us the same way the terrorist attacks did after September 11," Soros said.

"The way the Bush Administration has conducted the war on terror converted us from victims to perpetrators."

"The war on terror has claimed more innocent victims than September 11."

Soros was introduced by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who pointed out about a half dozen times that "this movement is not just about this election, it's about our future."

After the sixth time she used a formulation of this phrase, she hastened to add that she supported John Kerry as strongly as she's ever supported anyone.
