Dec. 30, 2007— -- The reception was almost over, so, hey, what the heck.

Marilyn Piper showed up to see Barack Obama at a church in Indianola, Iowa, tonight, a little bit overdressed in her satin ivory wedding dress. Her husband of five hours, Dean Piper, wore a black suit and a red and white boutonniere on his lapel.

"Why not?" Marilyn said.

"We just wanted to come over and see it," said Dean. "I'm originally from Illinois, my brother and sister-in-law live in Springfield, so we've heard a lot about him already."

They had come straight from their wedding reception at the American Legion Hall, nearby, after a ceremony earlier in the afternoon, at a different church north of town. Most of the wedding guests came with them, too.

"Yeah, we skipped out on the cleanup," Marilyn said.

Marilyn grew up in Iowa. The couple, who live in Florida, will not be voting in the upcoming Iowa caucuses, but they thought they might never have another chance to see the possible future president up close and in person.

And they had another motive for coming in full wedding dress.

"Well, we were thinking that if we wore the wedding dress, we'd get a picture, and it worked!" said Marilyn. "And we're going to go back to work to tell everybody he (Obama) came to my wedding!"

The two are not sure yet if they'll support Obama or not for the presidency.

They may have to leave the Obama event a little early. They have a honeymoon to get to.
