Do. -- -- That's between David and his attorney. He's represented by councilman. I mean I'd love to hear the whole story. From I don't purposes but I can't you know advise them what to do some was represented by counsel could make its own judgment -- I just -- -- it like to hear the story. But I don't want to be accused of instructing someone to do something. Because you're you're you're represented by counsel he and his lawyer will determine what -- leaders in their best interest certainly. You know. Hearing the story would be different. Well. I I don't know. I don't know I mean this -- up to this point in time for the emails released yesterday. It was senator -- testimony. That mr. Weinstein initiated. At his approval. With his approval. -- -- I know I don't know. Giving some of the emails I -- yesterday. Clearly mr. while she played a major role. Whether it's his -- the initiation of senator -- testified I guess time will tell. But clearly. There was knowledge. All of this action we effort was. Prior to the beginning of it with -- -- and that was something that I send direct. And answered -- -- question few weeks ago was not the case. That's what we were told. After repeated questioning them all the people around here and I was like -- and for that she's determined. -- -- Well first off I would -- -- -- For you and others to believe that I interviewed hundreds of thousands of people with US attorney I could not. Might a US cities interviewed hundreds if not thousands of people. And who was the very rare occasion when the US attorney himself or herself goes into the room and -- to witness it probably -- a dozen times. He's seven years but the very rare occurrence. If -- if you're trying to understand this on a personal level. If you've worked with someone for five years. And they've been a member of your political team. And then government. And you look at them and you say -- them. What do you know about this. -- did you have any involvement. Did you having knowledge -- and they look at you say -- And -- had never had any reason before. To believe that they were anything but the truth -- what would you believe. I mean I work on the basis of trust and and I assume over a period of time that most people are trustworthy. And that's proven otherwise. And so when we asked those questions and we got those answers. There was no reason at the time we ask the questions for us to -- That they weren't true based upon the content that person I think. You even if you look at some of the stories today written -- rapper to Kelly I don't think you hurt anybody. In those stories talk -- -- in any way -- very positive ways given her history here in the Statehouse working for the legislate. So I had no reason to believe that she was telling me you're the truth and that's why use the -- before I was heartbroken. Because I trusted. That I was being told the truth and I wasn't and and and and I wasn't by somebody who I place a significant amount of trust and so did did I miss it we missed it. I mean that's why we're here right miss that but then what do you do women can you find that humans. I found out at nine little before 9 yesterday morning by 9 o'clock this is worried her position was terminated. And and I think that's swift appropriate action the people would expect. From the chief executive of the state and. That's the nature. They know that. I understand what -- saying. I can't read anything else into beyond I knew your conferring certain things from the email. I think that's a reasonable inference but I don't know don't know the answer because remember we ask questions we need to know but the existence of the email. I found that after the first time at 8:50 yesterday morning and you can only imagine. As I was standing there in my bedroom with my iPad. Looking at that. How incredibly. Sad and -- I felt. And so I don't know what you see behind. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- He expects. Listen I I have absolutely nothing. And I've not given any instructions to anyone yet. What -- -- and everybody will be to cooperate and answer questions I had you know Josh I'm not from the heights of any questions anybody wants to ask me they can ask. You know from from law enforcement you know -- -- -- want to ask. They can pass on so we have -- -- Biden's administration's them. -- -- Whole thing. Yeah. -- not Kevin's. No confirmation hearing will go forward on Tuesday. And I expect you know he'll be vigorously questioned like any candidate for attorney general should be and -- expected to get swift. And and certain confirmation because he deserves. Police. I have not had thought about that many weeks. A lot of things have been thinking about that was -- -- I'll put it on my -- to consider but I haven't thought about it. We've we've been given no documents -- us. I don't know what we certainly -- -- offered to us. To review I'm -- the first time we saw any documents was on the Bergen record web site. Yesterday morning we have been offered Charlie. And. Okay. -- That's what -- Listen I don't. I don't believe Bridget. Had policies. Policy the far. On any issue -- -- job was to interact with the other governmental agencies. And to have -- -- with members of the legislature's. And that was her job so my understanding for -- -- -- was that she had no authority policy. That policy issues had to be run through. Chief of staff's office. And and so -- you know now. Again I noticed certain -- positions. In that in that question but. My understanding of British authority was not -- extend policy. And Melissa. Yeah. -- -- -- She had no -- -- Mean that's put aside the supposition. She had no prior approval from the chief of staff who was -- direct report. And she had no prior approval from the governor. She did not seek it we weren't informed about it. And so if she acted in -- -- which exceeded her authority. Which seems you know to be a possibility. You know that's what she did but I had no knowledge of this in the -- chief of staff. -- I I spoke to might last night. David at that time was considering. Whether or not to resign. And and he made that determination the next -- the meeting with. The administration to resign. But I don't believe from my conversation. We might last night that that was the main topic of the of dinner that night that topped the dictator was a social -- Not professional. Check. Yeah. Okay. Well to the extent I can't I -- From what I know. At this point mr. -- mr. -- dean's position. Is that the -- supposed to -- traffic stop and I've heard nothing from them that changes their position. I -- -- emails. Which indicate that there is a political overtone. To what went on. I don't know what the situations I don't know whether I -- -- I think answered this before I don't know whether this was. Some type of broad political operation that that morphed into traffic study were traffic study that morphed into. An additional -- political opera I don't know. Well listen to as best I can put you know. Mr. Watson is scheduled to testify you know the legislature so you know not like he's available for interview. So you know I'm I'm not -- as I said in response to questions over here. I'm not get -- -- in the middle of the legislative process with people that they've already -- to -- witnesses. I think it would be inappropriate let them do their job because if I did that I'd be accused of trying to play around with testimony which on the -- -- -- -- -- Conclusive you pick -- -- disobeying traffic -- I don't. There are you kidding me I don't want a traffic study for my house Marseille. I think -- out of traffic study business for certain never really -- and if we don't -- -- be and I guess I here's what we should do. That's -- policy going forward that should be left to the professional staff at the Port Authority. And let the professional engineers and those folks deal with -- whether -- should be done or not on are pretty confident in saying that that is the current position of this administration. Listen I think they have every right to do what they're doing given what was revealed yesterday. And so you know I'm certainly not the question that under the terms the right to conduct an investigation I think given what was revealed yesterday I was shocked by it. I assumed they were too. And I have a good relationship with the incoming speaker. And I'll work with him everywhere that I possibly can to make sure that we put this matter to rest. So I certainly -- question their right -- ability to do that now. John. Oh yeah he's an -- Only -- okay. He never made his name was never mentioned to me. His position was never mentioned to me when I see John he was not on my radar screen that means he was not on my radar screen. I never had built stepping in or anybody else -- with the campaign even mentioned today. -- like even an update like hey we've had two meetings with the mayor we think things are going well we can -- through poorly I'd get those kind updates. I never heard. Before the mayor's name -- soccer which his name. Until all the stuff happens and so he was not on my -- Google plenty of other mayors work. And number of them wound up endorsing a set number -- wound up having meetings with like your references. Mayor -- which not only don't ever meeting them. He was never mentioned to me that's why -- go back to the question over here you know make -- joke about this. That's part of the reason I felt comfortable doing it like this -- had anything to do with politics. Than I don't even know this guy. Couldn't beat it some won't be doing something like this against a mayor that I'd never. Had any conversations with more any sense that we -- even seeking his endorsement. And so you know that's why this is such. As part of the reason this is such a mystery to me John and and why -- so upset about it. I would -- whose T. Ellwood city -- he. For somebody who has had some that do what -- and what did he do. I mean I don't know this guy. Like I said I may have met him in his greeting line arena in and -- Bergen County veterans town hall leaders and but I'm -- -- -- until yesterday we saw his picture on TV. I wouldn't I if you walked in the room would be able to pick him out. So that's not to diminish human anyway it's just that in this context. This is not a guy who was on my radar screen in any way nor was his name. Ever brought up to me by bill stepping in until. After the story started to appear about the Fort -- traffic problem that's the first time that I heard about their -- -- and so that's why -- -- It's such a mystery to me and ended. Sure of course that was Kelly but you know what is huge he was -- one of them. He wasn't one of them I mean I'm I'm happy to admit that I was trying to -- the school. Absolutely. And that's what you do a political campaign. Try to get as many supporters endorsers that turning to voters that's -- your job. Of course put put I had to go get it. Invariably in these things I ultimately had to make a phone call or do something. To bring the person over the finish line it was the rare occurrence that I never met a person -- spokesman -- that -- -- with themselves you know. My point you -- This is you're trying to give you context for why I didn't think this was an issue. Because I know the campaign that we ran. I know -- I was pursuing his endorsers. I know who was close and we didn't get. I know who has never close and it or we were trying to get and I -- people would not. This guy never was on my radar screen and -- and I think he confirmed that last night. By saying he was never really hasn't -- any recollection of being even asked for the endorsement -- You know. That's why I don't get this. But it is what it is and I'm responsible forward. Regardless of all that challenge -- responsible from where it happened on my watch. And you can't just say well listen I didn't know about it so it's not my problem go talk to somebody else the buck stops -- -- desk. And so I have to act. And -- acted as quickly as I could responsibly. -- found out about this attendance and on history morning. By 9 o'clock this morning particularly was terminated by 7 PM last night -- -- -- was told to leave the organization and leave the -- yet. So I think that's pretty swift action given that I really yesterday was blind sided by this. I'm not happy I was blind sided on the crowd -- was points on. As I -- when I came up here. I feel humiliated like this. I'm a person who cares deeply about doing my job well -- worked extraordinarily hard. That's why should do have taken an oath to that effect. But in humiliated by the fact. That I did not know this and I was deceived and that's an awful wheat field. -- supporters who. Yeah. Was in good. I mean I think that's why I'm here apologized. It's of it was -- it was an awful callous -- different thing to do. And if it was part of a traffic study. That's one thing. What's it has political overtones that's an entirely different matter and and that's why. I am upset about this and that's why. I apologize the people of New Jersey today and why apologize specifically to the people for The Who were inconvenienced over those four days. It's not right and that's why your politics of what I have no idea and I can't in this I will -- those questions as -- always. As a former US attorney. When I was US attorney I hate -- when politicians that behind podiums and told. The Department of Justice what to do and I am not can do that after complaining to my colleagues about it for seven years when politicians would do it. Now -- -- one of those -- and you. -- -- -- -- bitter commentary wasn't. Bryant. Here. -- Now Brian. I mean here and listen I -- you're asking. No I am I I mean I am I -- penalties that we are back that's -- crazy question man. I -- I had nothing to do with this. And so you know no I never gave any thought to doing it all Norwood -- What was I thinking about last night when I couldn't go to sleep. How did this happen. That's what -- was the combat. You know when sure when you're responsible and I spent a lot of time keeping Mary -- up last night. Talk to me through. Yards where it's great to have a really you know supportive -- She's -- to four hours to. But you know it -- it. That's -- -- -- happened. And why people do this I still can't hear you work really hard -- worked hard this job. And it's incredibly disappointing. To have people let you down this way. I'm incredibly loyal to my people. And and I expect to return their honesty and their candor. And their -- and -- -- get it. And. -- Hartford rescue work as hard as I do with cinematic but here's the thing. This is my job. And there are can be mistakes and are going to be disappointments I don't -- a perfect government anywhere in the country and I certainly never claimed to have one. I think that the best government to possibly make. It's sometimes are going to be mistakes and when there are I have to own up to them and take responsibility and act. And that's -- -- done today and and much promise to the people the state is that if there's any other evidence that comes forward that requires action be taken I will take. No matter how much it hurts me personally you're -- this -- me. Because this is the job I asked for. I gotta do. -- -- -- What as I -- that day. I'd be determination during the fall campaign. That I wanted to make -- change. At the Port Authority. Bill was one of -- longest serving deputy executive directors in recent history for years. And I felt like it was time for change part of that is evidenced -- like my response to Josh is questioned about the internal workings -- There's a lot of hand to hand combat over -- Port Authority legitimately so. Between your -- to receive a resource -- -- -- I think I thought assisted at the time the four years was enough. For any one person. It's so I approached -- -- reach unity during the fall campaign. With the time was my policy chief considered. I'm thinking about making a change. The Port Authority would you be willing to take the job if I asked you she said yes. And so from the from the fault if it ever was September October -- who -- before Election Day TV. I am I'd make a decision in my own mind. And very soon after the election. That was communicated to build -- so what we're doing was trying to figure out the timing -- During -- I want to get them during the transition. I want to -- to produce a policy worked -- need to follow. -- for me. And I wanted to build -- an appropriate period of time to be able to get himself ready. To move on -- his next opportunities. And so that's the way the process work itself it was neither bill jumping ship. Nor us pushing for this reason. It was just saying it's time to go you've served four years and I'd like to put someone else there and so. All that was very amicable. At the time it's something that you know he understood to be such. Once -- it was really take the job. David. -- Okay this is -- -- -- I'm -- expected. Not. Record. -- -- -- No I hey I don't know about what you're talking about that's the first I've heard. Second. I don't believe there is we take these -- -- very seriously. And we have a person dedicated and counsel's office. To use to review these matters -- the other people inside the department supervision departments to review -- matters. I'm so no I don't think there is Matt I think in the main. You know -- -- -- we respond. He's -- requests appropriately under the law. That's my understanding from. Both my first chief counsel and my second chief counsel so I don't have any reason we've otherwise. If if there sometimes under the -- you're talking about. What if they're sometimes mistakes -- oversight to ensure that can happen but no stone there's no pattern of conduct. It's the -- we have to comply -- and we comply with the law as written. What was your first call for comment knowing -- -- -- don't get those calls directly. So I don't -- I don't know. The second no it won't affect my ability to work -- you don't you have all. We'll forcible personal I don't know that she ordered traffic -- I know way. I might infer and you might infer from that the city earlier we're gonna have to find out -- -- Hi Anderson pathology -- okay. I'm telling you when I asked for. An answer -- remember my staff and then high regard. So what the conflict is they find out they're gone. So I never had to get to the younger ones if you mind when I ask you questions you'll find. That day. If I had to come to the underlying conduct directly underlying conduct their fire -- two. But I need to get there because question one what do you know anything about this did you have -- involved with. The answer was no -- emails evidence that the answer should have been yes I need go no further. And that. In terms of making a determination about -- future appointment. -- -- Are you suggesting -- should've kept the it is -- publicity. This Bob. And then -- -- -- that then you have the legislature complaining about talking to someone -- the chairman has said yesterday publicly. He attends the calls -- witness. And I think the higher priorities for me not to your future. With what the legislature's in the process of doing. At some knowledge I'm not gonna do that because then this is the political nature of this would -- chart to charges of interference -- -- -- that. If after if she. Mark testified -- with the chairman said he intends to. And she testified. If after that time. I have we have other questions. That we can make that decision at that time whether to pursue that information but he's my judgment. You can disagree with. But it's my judgment -- for me to get involved with someone who the chairman this thing going to call as a witness. Between the time I discovered this and the time that she may testify. Would be not the right thing for -- Well -- -- certainly wouldn't tamper with a witness. But I could be accused of tampering with a witness. I don't know behind. You know and -- and that the fact of the matter is. That the best way for me to not involve myself -- that is do not involve myself in that. And I'm just trying to be a safe and careful Steward of the public trust. And what I'd love to have more information yesterday. You back. But I also have to understand the position I hope. And it's a position of extraordinary trust. And I have to execute that position with the acknowledgment of that trust and so that's why I'm doing it. I didn't quite understand your question that you -- and I had trouble hearing to. He it was a surprising whose opinion I think it will inspire. Because we didn't have the documents. We asked. Bridget Kelly she told us she didn't have any. We asked her if she was involved she said she was not. Quiescent should -- knowledge which she said she didn't. That's why I was surprised. I was surprised so I was told -- was not America. And then there was. I mean you know this is not in that -- it's not a mystery. If you ask for something and so -- deceived you and tells -- -- doesn't exist. What's the follow up. Are you sure. Yes. You've searched your emails yes. You don't have anything no. OK we involved in any -- no any knowledge no -- After that what do you do. You'd have to ask them I don't know. I don't think so. I don't fix it. I don't know -- -- I know you guys would've loved out of -- actually did I told you I'm not that stage yet. I'm sure I might get to the stage weren't angry I don't prefix. Oh gosh -- London. You need to understand us. I am standing here resolved. To do my job and do what I'm supposed to do but I can't be very sad person today. That's the emotion I feel. A person close to -- betrayed me. A person who -- counted on. And trusted for five years betrayed me a person why keep a high government office to betrayed me. -- probably do get angry at some point but I -- tell you the truth I'm sad. I'm sad guy standing here today. And very disappointed. And that's the overriding emotion and someone -- -- -- before it that's the overriding emotion. And I know that because of my bluntness and -- directness that people think well of course he must get behind that door and be a lunatic. What he's mad about something. If you ask the staff. He is -- rare moment. In this office when I raise my voice. The rare moment. When -- raise my voice. I reserve -- for very special times and I will tell you. The last time I did. Four weeks ago. When I had them all -- that office and I said if any of you have any information. About this that I don't know you need to tell me Kevin or Charlie now. That was the last time I raised my voice in my office. And so no I didn't break anything I didn't yelling screaming curse anybody out it's sad day for me. And I'm doing. What -- obligated to went -- this job. Because it's the right thing to do and I'm doing. But it doesn't make me angry at the moment it just makes -- A I have had. No contact with David Nelson. In a long time the long -- well before. The election. -- I could probably count on one hand the number of conversations I have with David since he worked at the Port Authority. I did not interact with -- fifty to be here for meeting in the Statehouse are related to -- say hello how's your family we chat. -- have that kind of relationship I understand always been characterized the press. You know high level which he will yes he had an important job but he was not interacting with the governor on any regular basis there were channels to go through here. And he and -- -- went through those channels and if something had to be brought to my attention. I don't even remember in the last four years even -- the media in my office which it wants to. I may have but I don't remember bill -- yes. But David -- so no nobody called -- told me anything I'm telling you at 8:50 yesterday morning. I got dealt with my work out at 845. My trainer left. I'm getting ready to get -- -- and 850 Maria -- called me and told me about the breaking Bergen record story and it's the first I knew. Any of the emails or the information contained in that story. Know -- system. Now that's why apologize to -- look. I don't know I don't think it's my credibility. I mean I think Kelly if I didn't stand up and take responsibility and apologize directly to the people -- jerseys -- don't today. Then I think that would be a risk. But I'm not the kind of person. I understand responsibilities job how to for four years now. And I think it's that this it to the press conference in December. It's funny at times like -- credit for things that had little to do as governor. And sometimes I get blamed for things that I have little -- But it doesn't matter. I'm the government. And things that happen on my watch or my responsibility both good and bad. And you're darn right what they did hurt the people of New Jersey and hurt the people for the and the person who needs to apologize for that -- me. And a half. And I'm sorry. To all the people of the state. That they have to be cute you know occupied. With this matter it's embarrassing Mississippi before the whole matters humiliating to me. But all you can do as a person. When you know this is to stand up and be genuinely and sincerely apologize and hope the people accept your apology. I think I've built up enough good will over time with the people of New Jersey. That a very hopefully will -- -- -- certainly. Chris the first of the answer as of right now as I don't know. -- is certainly something that I've talked to staff. About looking at. But you know. Weekend Marshall we found out about this 24 hours ago so you know thinks we'll take some time I certainly have spoken people in the -- conducted yesterday asked them specifically. -- -- three Nelson to let me know if there's anything that touches upon this. And will interview also folks who have. Who worked for bricks. To see if there's anything that they know and can shed -- -- I'm so we're to prosecute them but that's you know could be time consuming wanna do carefully and I just begin that process yesterday and work with -- New chief counsel to to get that's the storm so we can -- -- -- -- and we need to but wherever the inspiration comes from. You know we'll take -- into account if action is required I'll take action. You know this. Political retribution. No -- Political fighting sure. And and people go back and forth all the time. And you've seen that in this building no matter what administrations here. But the way we're different is. We can fight. But then we get into a room and more times than not. Were able to reach common ground with the other side. To be able to move progress forward I mean that. The -- -- signing a few weeks ago is a perfect example of that. There was a lot of fighting about -- and a lot of kind of hysteria in the media about. Who's saying what about whom and and what's all this mean that anger and be back and forth between me and senate president and others who -- supporters. You don't part of that is you know what you should be doing. To engage in political debate and to try to persuade folks to your particular point of view. And then ultimately the what makes us different in that thing I was talking about God's politics as usual. Is that this is an administration. That is never shut down government. Over budget dispute. This is an administration that has reached bipartisan consensus. On issues that have been problems for New Jersey for decades that no one else will be able to reach consensus on bipartisan or partisan. This is an administration that's gotten big things don't. We if a legislature the other party. So that's what I mean it's not politics as usual but will we fight sometimes and will things get sharp elbowed you that. It goes both ways. But you know. -- -- -- -- -- Now. No because. That was situation. Which. Was handled by the attorney general. At the time. And now judge -- now. I've complete utter confidence and Paula and her ability make those decisions I was not involved in that decision there was -- pretty in this building because we don't get involved. In law enforcement issues. And so no there's no reason -- -- back and look at that -- Don't I won't -- decision -- in this -- this is one issue that we have to deal with it's an important issue. But it cannot be the only issue as you know we have things to do in the state. Important things to do for the people states ought to keep working on what -- -- -- -- -- -- from other things as well. But it was very important today. Within 24 hours of these revelations for me. To be take action. And to apologize. People -- people Fort Lee and that's you know exactly what I'm doing. -- took home -- this if well if you want to mail -- -- other people for. I mean I wish she would -- he put it -- certainly not gonna report into his office which is a wanna see that -- -- simply self important and talk to people for. I wish the mayor would reconsider. Because I come to genuinely apologize to him for the content -- people who were in my -- but if you doesn't want. A meeting on in the -- needs now a meeting between he and I could be freed with -- words. -- -- Premature destructive I don't know how meeting between two elected officials could be premature destructive but if he doesn't want to meet with me that's his choice. You know -- meet with other people and for me -- There. Okay. On earth well I don't know why would -- campaign. Funding and I have no knowledge of that and we would consider that. In the normal course of business before and certainly not something that you know I'm prepared to talk about. No I think it was that it was a winner pat. Always you -- -- becomes an earlier story. And I don't remember exactly. Something about the traffic. Respond. All this. Ideas we did we know we can't. And we were told -- was -- traffic. And we were told that they did traffic starting -- did not want normal. We'll track and into the into the traffic. You. That's what we were told. And so we -- respond yet we have been and and that's how we responded you know and and and again. I'm not somebody who's going to be. You know getting into the details of a traffic study whether one has -- appropriate inappropriate certainly at that time and I can tell you. That at that first moment that's what -- became aware that there was submission but I didn't even at that -- built into it was not something that I was personally don't think. It probably -- my intention laws. When I got out of here was to call them here. And so I'm called them here and we'll see you in any event. You know on -- to Fort -- On today because I think it's important for me to do that now -- the mayor doesn't want me to meet with him that's certainly his choice he's. -- should listen I'm sure he. Listen I don't know him OK so I can't be offended and I'm confident. If he wants to meet with me today am happy to -- -- he doesn't want me to be today I'm still gonna go to Fort -- today. Because I think it's important for me to be on the ground there today and to apologize -- books and so we would do that if he wants to be part of that. He's more than welcome to be and also to meet with me privately. If he doesn't that's his choice to -- you got independent -- that's been his -- so or thank you for coming today. And four era before your questions and I will see all of you. If not a war on Tuesday for the State's dangerous river. New Jersey governor Chris Christie wrap it up and nearly a two hour press conference in Trenton, New Jersey they're saying numerous times that he was embarrassed that he is humiliated and that he is saddened. By the scandal that has happened at the George Washington Bridge. Where over course of four days there were delays in place this a live shot of the George Washington bridge and as a result of that. From an email sent from his now former deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly. The governor has taken the action of terminating her employment but this. Was the email. That Bridget Kelly had sent over to the head of Port Authority saying time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee that is -- New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge. David -- steam ahead of the Port Authority at that moment replies with god so. For that two hour news conference -- section I want to bring in our political analyst Matt Dowd. Some insight on this Matt nearly two hours and the question is did the governor do an -- -- lower the temperature on this does he still have some explaining to -- Well I think for today he did it's good job does anybody can under the circumstances. I mean here's a governor that we're all been used to whose pets a lot of -- -- -- bravado. But he definitely walked into this thing conduct of south south and it's very chastened. Way in the course of this event it's unlikely any time we've ever seen him in this way usually pushing -- saying I got it and he obviously was very disappointed very chastened. Very humbled by -- of this I think for today and I think for until other information and other things might come out I think he it is. As good a job as you possibly can can under these circumstances if the facts stay in place. That he enunciated that there's nothing else. There's no other information that somebody else in the administration was involved in this. -- he comes out of this thing OK but I think there is a lot of time actors these investigations going on. There's other questions going to be asked and I've seen so many of these situations and political office where. Most of the time there will they're not one time only deals most the time these things happen and then there's a replication of these things and I think that's we have -- latency. And that was one of the things that he had alluded to this fact -- -- in fact I was. Making light of the fact that during the stage of grief that there is the stage of anger that he had not reached that stage yet but that he said. I haven't gotten to anger stage yet but I'm sure I'll get there repeatedly asked that a couple of times by some of the reporters. In the room there I want to ask you though his brand as you were talking about brash. Tough talking effect of one point -- addressing some of the reporters there as they were trying to jump in with additional questions saying we don't work like that guys. In his response -- the -- even if he knew nothing about this does that style that he took today. What kind of an examples that's that then. For his staff. Well I think its staff obviously there's there's an answer inspection going on all over not -- among the governor but among staff that are still that are left in place. There they have to obviously go through and figure out what else is there what do they what do they not know what else is going on. And but I also think they're gonna have to -- -- especially with the press corps and other elected officials in a different way. Then they probably conducted in -- of the last four years at least in this. Mid term period until they get through this because this sort of push it through bravado were in charge which they've been known to. To do over the course that were the governor's office where the governor this is that we're on top of the mountain. I think they're gonna have to operate with some sense of humility at least for a while. To get through this -- let me ask you as a matter is this is an opening for Democrats Cristi has emerged as a likely front runner for the Republican for the presidential race. -- into the sixteen Q what are Democrats gonna do -- to amplify this current situation. Well if I were Democrats if I were advising Democrats in his current situation I would say don't do anything don't say anything don't do anything. This basically -- the process could carry itself out anytime anybody gets involved in these things. When somebody else's that's it something's imploding our problems are going on if you try to learn about yourself -- -- usually you suffer collateral damage. And so I would say stay out of it. Say that's what the proper conduct an investigation take its place. And then allow that to happen and stay far removed from it and keep your eyes and ears and hands out of this until that process moves along. It less. -- ask you about this mad because before -- mayor mark -- -- -- I had held a news conference a short time ago at the same time when Chris Christie was holding his news conference. The governor was saying that he intended to go up to four -- their that he wanted to be present in the community there to issue an apology and he made the invitation to the mayor there. And the mayor essentially responded and this is a very rough for bait on this but the mayor -- essentially responded that any kind of a visit would disrupt their kids -- school system. I would rather he not wasting gas and wait a little bit. And what of the one of the correspondents. In Trenton there had asked the governor about that. And his response. I mean to be quite honest with you without having an opportunity to confer with aides had to be thought of right on the fly I mean -- he deal with that was at the right. Is is that the best approach -- he's got right now is almost the defy the mayor of Fort Lee. Well I think from almost all of that press -- -- -- -- which is in I have not seen one of those two hour -- press conferences it. Ever if at any time I think the last one that people recall is Geraldine -- press conference at about two hours long back in. Thirty years ago or whatever. -- I think his answers must have more unscripted most of mark program also and that would specifically as he was unaware of that. I think -- answer that was my -- and listen I have to I wanna go up to portly. There's constituents there they are you know citizens of the state he's the governor of the state. They are only are not only the mayor's constituencies hurt his constituents I think he gave the right answer. My guess is I wouldn't be surprised the mayor finds time Molly is up there to see the governor. I think he'd be kind of ridiculous for the governor be there in the -- not be available in this at the mayor's going up to apologize but I think -- answer was good. Their constituents I think there instead there's his constituents in the mayor's constituents and he feels he -- -- -- direct apology. And an interesting comment that he did make the -- and -- in fact he couldn't pick out mayor -- -- from a lineup. And actually there there is a picture there and the the governor did say in fact that he. May have met him. In a handshake at a luncheon something along those lines. Is this selective memory or is it it is it is it truly the reality. Well I had worked for a lot of politicians in the past them both sides of the Alley meet thousands and thousands and thousands of people every year and they need hundreds and hundreds of elected officials. It's not surprising. It people somebody madam and a walk -- are so many met him in of course quick thing at an event. That they wouldn't really -- colony here. Oh this is Gillian Anderson this is Marcia Smith -- in here all these names and -- quickly go on and have a speech to give an end up paying attention. That's not surprising that he probably does or call this mayor. All right well we will wait to see how that will follow this afternoon as well as the governor is resolute in making his way up to -- -- from Trenton. Mapped out -- so much for its I would certainly appreciate that. This has been an ABC officials such reports are here on And Yahoo!
