text: The debut season of a controversial reality show about black sorority members will end sooner than expected with the last three episodes airing back-to-back Friday, according to The Associated Press.

VH1 has acknowledged criticism of how "Sorority Sisters" depicts black sorority members but wanted to satisfy viewer interest by wrapping up the 10-episode season, the AP reported.

At least one critic says the show reduces the sororities to a "perverse caricature."

The channel says it has not decided whether to pull the plug.

title: A Well-Traveled Letter to Deceased Dad

text: California teen Ashlynn Marracino and restaurant owner Lisa Swisley have become the least likely of Skype buddies, and not just because they live 436 miles apart.

Ashlynn, 16, celebrated her late father's Jan. 6 birthday by writing him a letter and floating it away on a star-shaped balloon. The letter balloon turned up the next day in Swisley’s Auburn, California restaurant, after which Auburn residents began sending Ashlynn care packages, letters and even some notes sharing their own experiences of losing a parent.

“You have missed so much and I miss you,” the balloon read. “And I love you, miss you like crazzy!”

Said Swisley: "It's all been so unbelievable.”
