Bruce Jenner Steals the Show, Old Spice Gets a 'Rocky' Makeover
Aug. 19, 2013
It's not always enough to know what's "trending." It kind of helps to know why. Welcome to The Social Climber, where we provide a quick primer on the people, places and things that are being feverishly searched and shared online -- and try to make sense of it all.
Bruce Jenner Keeps It in the Family

It's not often that former Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner manages to steal the spotlight from the rest of his brood (we're looking at you, North West), but there's always a first time for everything.
Bruce Jenner flew his mother, Esther, to California to celebrate her 87th birthday on Sunday night's episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and, man, was there tension. Esther apparently never approved of daughter-in-law Kris, but, in an unlikely move, Bruce pushed the two women to make amends on national television, of course.
After the women hashed things out, Kris had this to say of her mother-in-law: "If I'm that sassy at 87, I'm going to be very happy," according to E!
Old Spice That Makes You Feel Like Rocky
Quinn Sheeran, 11, just made everyone's daily deodorant swipes extraordinary.
The whiz kid decided to rip open a greeting card that played the "Rocky" theme song, disassemble the electronic and reassemble it on an Old Spice stick so that when you pop the cap open, the song blares triumphantly before you even roll the clean-smelling scent on.
The photo of Sheeran's his genius invention was posted on Reddit by his cousin, where it surged to the front page on Sunday, the Daily Dot reported. A video explainer of how the invention came to be soon followed.
"OP missed out on a big opportunity," wrote Reddit user sed_base. "Some exec from a deodorant company is gonna see this and make bank when Old Spice comes up with something as corny as this."
Feel like getting honest on Twitter? Then get in on the hashtag string of the moment, #ThingsIHateAboutPeople.
The Social Climber doesn't feel like she's in too angsty of a mood today, so we'll let some tweeters taking part in the global gripe reveal what drives them crazy instead.
"They think they know exactly how you feel all the time when they have NOOOO idea #ThingsIHateAboutPeople," tweeted @margaret_jang_.
"#ThingsIHateAboutPeople Wait, I only have 140 characters for this?," @jakpogi added.

Baby Prince George Hardly a Royal Pain

The Social Climber knows you've been going through withdrawal after the arrival of Prince George meant no longer wondering (and compulsively checking) whether Kate had gone into labor.
Prince William is privy to this, so he scheduled an interview with CNN to reveal snippets of what it's like to be the proud father of the newest addition to the royal family. Turns out the royal baby is just like any other newborn who keeps his parents up through many a sleepless night.
"He's a little bit of a rascal, I'll put it that way," William told CNN. "He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure. But he's doing very well at the moment.
"He's growing quite quickly actually. But he's a little fighter -- he wriggles around quite a lot and he doesn't want to go to sleep that much," he said.
Royal families, they're just like us?
Maria Sharapova Loses on the Court, Coach Loses His Job

Maria Sharapova might have hired eight-time Grand Slam champion Jimmy Connors to keep her climbing up the tennis ladder. But when she loses on the court, it apparently means her coach loses, too.
Sharapova fired Connors after just one match, Tennis.com confirmed. After the 26-year-old lost in the second round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinatti, she kicked Connors to the curb.
"It's not the right fit for this time in my career," she said in a statement to Tennis.com.
Sharapova hired Connors after she fired Thomas Hogstedt, her coach of two-and-half years, after she lost in the second round of Wimbledon.
The Social Climber is sensing a pattern here.
Lindsay Lohan Tells Oprah She's a Changed Woman
Oprah Winfrey Network
Fresh off her latest stint in rehab, Lindsay Lohan parked herself on Oprah's couch to talk about her next chapter. But don't feel bad if you didn't catch the redemptive OWN interview: The Social Climber will fill you in on all the juicy details.
Let's get to the good stuff. When Oprah asked the 27-year-old actress what drugs she was on, the conversation went something like this:
Oprah: "So, what are you on now?"
Oprah: "You're on just vitamins now?
Oprah: "You're not on any prescription drug?"
Lohan: "No, no. I take Nexium because I have acid reflux."
Paging Nexium. Don't say Oprah never did you any favors.

"The Three Musketeers" star Raquel Welch will grace the screen this fall in the Lifetime original movie, "House of Versace," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will look at the life of the late fashion designer and icon Gianni Versace through the eyes of his sister, Donatella Versace, played by Gina Gershon. Welch, 72, the reigning international sex symbol, has appeared in "Legally Blonde" and "Forget About It."
The film comes after other orginal Lifetime movies based on real people, including convicted murderer Jodi Arias and model/actress Anna Nicole Smith.
Will life imitate art, or will art imitate life? Guess we'll see when the film premieres on Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
