Inside the Huddle: Plummer bulks up

Cardinals quarterback Jake "The Snake" Plummer gained his nickname because of his slender frame and gambling style of play, but his body has evolved to the point where he may need to change his nickname to Boa Constrictor. Last year, his weight went from 190 to 198, and this year -- through weightlifting and the maturing process -- the Snake is at a solid 212. The timing couldn't be better because the 27-year-old Plummer could be a free agent next year.

Saints coach Jim Haslett saw flashes of Randy Moss and Joey Galloway this month while watching first-round choice Donte' Stallworth dart downfield. On one play in practice, Stallworth raced 40 yards and looked back only to see an Aaron Brooks' pass sailing past him. Stallworth ran another 30 yards for the catch and the touchdown. Asked by Haslett why he looked back, Stallworth said, "He never had anyone overthrow him." So far, his record is in tact.

Eagles coach Andy Reid believes it's time for the league to acknowledge Tra Thomas as one of the best left tackles. Influenced by the aggressive style of right tackle Jon Runyan, Thomas not only punishes defensive ends in games but he buries teammates in practice. His development has given Reid more confidence running to the left side.

With NFL Europe rosters predominately filled by allocated players from NFL teams, there won't be a flood of free agents to sign. Two of the more interesting possibilities are former Packers linebacker Jude Waddy, who bounced back from a 1999 substance abuse suspension to star for Berlin, which on Saturday won its second straight World Bowl, and former 49ers safety Jason Moore, who had two interceptions for Barcelona.

Former Rams defensive tackle D'Marco Farr recently visited the Titans to tape a TV story on offseason workouts for FOX, but the experience excited him enough to consider ending his one-year retirement. Farr is talking with a few teams, including the Titans, but his comeback is contingent on his knees passing a physical. John Clayton is a senior writer for ESPN.com.
