Javier 'Chicarito' Hernandez Leads Mexico at the World Cup

— -- If there was an award for Mr. Congeniality at the World Cup, it's a safe bet that Javier Hernandez would be a contender.

The 26-year-old, who is closing in on becoming Mexico's top all-time goal scorer, is one of the biggest names on Mexico's 2014 World Cup squad. Although he could be on the bench today in the game versus Cameroon, Hernandez remains one of the team's best offensive weapons.

Nicknamed "Chicarito," which means "little pea," Hernandez chose the nickname after his father, who was a top Mexican striker and went by the name "Chicharo," because of his green eyes.

Hernandez has played for Manchester United since 2010, where he has quickly endeared himself to fans, according to the team's website. Many of his countryman, however, have been upset with Hernandez, arguing that he could be a starter in their domestic league rather than ride the bench abroad.

Nevertheless, he could be key to Mexico's fortunes in Brazil. Aside form his beaming smile, Chicarito is known for his energy and speed that allow him to drive toward the goal. Despite a few setbacks, he summed up his work ethic in an interview on Manchester United's official website recently.

"Some skills come more easily to some people," he said. "But I think you always have to work hard to improve. I have always tried to work hard."
