— -- COLUMBUS, Ohio -- J.T. Barrett took over at quarterback in the second quarter for No. 1 Ohio State after Cardale Jones threw two interceptions that helped Northern Illinois build a 10-3 lead Saturday.

"J.T. is going to be the starter, and we're going to go and try to score some points," Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer told ABC at halftime.

Jones was picked off on Ohio State's first possession on a badly overthrown ball, and the Huskies turned it into a touchdown.

In the second quarter, Jones tried to squeeze a throw in between defenders, passing up an open receiver underneath, and was intercepted by Shawun Lurry in Buckeyes territory.

Ohio State held the Huskies to a field goal to make it 10-3, and Barrett entered on the next drive. The Buckeyes went three-and-out. On the following drive, Barrett led a four-play series that ended with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Michael Thomas.

Barrett also replaced Jones for the final three series of the second quarter against Hawaii, but Jones returned to start the third.

The Buckeyes and Huskies were tied 10-10 at halftime.
