Kent's walk-off homer snaps Dodgers' skid, Giants' streak

— -- LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Two late rallies equaled a win for the Dodgers. Jeff Kent hit a two-run homer with two out in the 10th inning, helping Los Angeles beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2 Tuesday night and snapping a four-game losing skid. "We just can't stay consistent," he said. "We're hoping we can try to put together a consistent drive and if we do that, we'll be all right." The loss ended the Giants' six-game winning streak. "We've been playing good baseball, and today was just a small bump in the road," said LaTroy Hawkins, who gave up a game-tying hit to Kent in the eighth. "Forget about it, come back out tomorrow night and try to win the series. We can do it. We definitely can do it." Kent hit the second pitch from Jeremy Accardo (0-4) into the left field seats, scoring Oscar Robles who had singled with two out. "I try not to put a whole lot of weight into one play or one game or one pitch for any of us," Kent said. "You have to play a string of consistent baseball if you want to make the playoffs. We haven't been able to do that yet. We're pushing hard." Rookie Accardo said he wasn't intimidated by Kent, who tied the game 2-2 on a single to shallow left field off Hawkins. "You want to go the other way with it so that he doesn't beat you with a homer, but the ball ran up and in on him," Accardo said. "He's got a quick bat, so it's not where you want to throw the ball." Yhency Brazoban (3-8) got the victory, allowing one hit and walking one in the 10th to end an eight-game losing skid. He retired Moises Alou on a 3-2 pitch, getting him to ground out with runners on first and second. The Dodgers lost the series opener 3-1 Monday. "Another night where we took a ballclub to the limit and fortunately things worked out for us," manager Jim Tracy said. "I don't really know where we'd be without Kent." Randy Winn was nearly on his knees when he laid down a suicide squeeze bunt in the seventh off a low pitch from Giovanni Carrara, who relieved Brad Penny. Angel Chavez, who doubled, scored to give the Giants a 2-1 lead. Penny left after six innings because of stiffness in his lower back. The right-hander gave up one run on six hits, struck out six and walked one. Tracy said Penny first experienced stiffness when he was warming up and the feeling resurfaced later. Brett Tomko pitched seven strong innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and walking two, but remained winless in his last six starts. "It would have been nice to gain a game on San Diego," he said. "Any loss late in the season when you're trying to crawl back into it is pretty tough." The Giants tied the game 1-1 in the sixth on a double by Pedro Feliz that went over the head of left fielder Jayson Werth and bounced against the bullpen fence. Two batters earlier, J.T. Snow tripled past a diving Werth and got hit by Werth's throw sliding into third base. Earlier in Feliz's at-bat, Snow bluffed toward home and Penny stepped off the mound, took a few steps toward third and said something to Snow. Jose Cruz Jr. led off the second with a home run to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead.
