Ole Miss confident of 'no wrongdoing'

— -- D.J. Law, the high school running back prospect from Florida who submitted signed national letters of intent to Utah and Mississippi, has been released from his obligation to Ole Miss.

Rebels coach Hugh Freeze says the school's compliance department is cooperating with the national letter of intent office and is "completely certain no wrongdoing occurred by our coaching or compliance staff."

A Utah spokeswoman says the school also was working with the NLI office.

Freeze says after speaking with Law and his family, Ole Miss is releasing Law from his letter of intent.

Law had publicly announced Wednesday that he planned to attend Utah, but both schools received signed letters of intent from him.

The 5-foot-11, 186-pound Law is listed as the No. 36 running back and a four-star prospect by ESPN Recruiting Nation.

Before Law's release, Freeze said Ole Miss had been willing to overlook "some academic challenges" the recruit likely would face stemming from issues he had early in high school.

"That was another midweek decision that we had to make, whether we were going to go all-out on him, stay in it with another guy that was very similar. And we made the decision to go with D.J.," Freeze said, according to USA Today Sports. "Really fell in love with him on his trip here.

"He's a kid from a very humble background, has had several hardships in his life and I'm totally convinced this kid wants to make something of himself."
