— -- June 11, 2016, marks the 30th anniversary release of " Ferris Bueller's Day Off," a film that still resonates in the sports world to this day.

The movie's impact on the sports landscape was made evident on Friday, when Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe died at the age of 88. Ferris' friend Cameron wore a Howe jersey throughout the film. The Red Wings noted the film's anniversary on Twitter as part of their continuing remembrances of Howe's death.

Baseball took a more notable role in the movie, as the main characters attended a game at Wrigley Field, with Ferris even catching a foul ball. (According to ESPN's Jim Caple, it's the ninth-best baseball scene in a non-baseball movie.) On the TV broadcast shown during the movie, the Chicago Cubs are playing the Atlanta Braves.

Coincidentally, the Cubs and Braves are playing on Saturday, but at Atlanta's Turner Field, which didn't open until 11 years after the film's release. However, the Braves are capitalizing on the anniversary and the fact the Cubs are in town by screening the film following the game.

One person who was in the film and is at Turner Field on Saturday is ESPN's Jesse Rogers, who currently covers the Cubs. He was a student at Glenbrook North High School outside of Chicago, where some of the film was shot, and appeared in a few scenes.
