— -- HOUSTON -- The Texans have ruled out Andre Johnson and Arian Foster for Saturday's preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Top overall pick Jadeveon Clowney will play.

"It means a lot to be out there with my teammates, learning what to do," Clowney said. "To get that first initial contact with an opposite team. Learning what other guys do in the league. It's going to be great for me."

Clowney had sports hernia surgery in June. He was healthy enough to practice when training camp opened July 26 but was limited as he worked through a rehab schedule. He left practice early on Aug. 2 and went into the facility on a cart that day.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said the rookie linebacker did not tweak anything that day, but Clowney did not practice for the next four days. He returned Thursday.

Foster suffered an injury on July 27, leaving practice midway through. He has practiced once since then, the day before the Texans' first day off from training camp.

Johnson's hamstring tightened on July 28 and he has not practiced since.

Running back Jonathan Grimes and receiver DeAndre Hopkins are expected to see the bulk of the playing time in place of Foster and Johnson on Saturday.
