— -- Detroit Tigers slugger Victor Martinez was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with inflammation in his surgically repaired left knee.

Martinez, who underwent surgery in February to repair a torn meniscus, appeared to aggravate the injury while trying to beat out a double-play grounder in Monday's loss to the Brewers.

A five-time All-Star, the 36-year-old Martinez is batting .216 with only one home run in 34 games this season.

The Tigers will recall outfielder Tyler Collins, who will replace Martinez on the 25-man roster, from Triple-A Toledo prior to Tuesday's game against Milwaukee.

Detroit has four outfielders who have been in the starting lineup for at least 14 games: Yoenis Cespedes, Anthony Gose, J.D. Martinez and Rajai Davis. Now they all might play regularly, since Martinez's designated hitter spot is open.
