In an interview with Cigar Aficionado magazine,? Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan weighed in on the NBA's so-called superteam era with a bold statement.

"I think it's going to hurt the overall aspect of the league from a competitive standpoint," Jordan said. "You're going to have one or two teams that are going to be great, and another 28 teams that are going to be garbage. Or they're going to have a tough time surviving in the business environment."

The six-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer may be speaking out against superteams, but he was the face of one during his playing days with the Chicago Bulls. The 1995-96 Bulls won a then-record 72 regular-season games and the NBA title.

But as ESPN's Ian Begley notes, it's likely that Jordan -- speaking from an owner's perspective -- is concerned about the NBA's competitiveness from top to bottom.

Jordan's Hornets have made the playoffs just fives times since the 2000-01 season and haven't made it out of the first round since the 2001-02 season. Last season, Charlotte finished 36-46 and did not qualify for the postseason.
