Strange New World: Tech Picks of the Week

Newish iMacs

It's almost like Apple wants you to buy a new iMac every year or something. This week they launched two new iMacs with Core 2 Duo Penryn processors. For your hard-earned $1,199, you can now get a 20-inch iMac with 2.4GHz processor, 1 GB of memory, 128 MB of ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics card and a 250 GB hard drive.

If you want to give more money to Jobs & Co., you can step up to the 24-inch model with a 3.06 GHz processor, 2 GB of memory, 512MB of NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS graphics and a 500 GB hard drive for $2,199. The new iMacs also come with some sweet bells and whistles: a 802.11n wireless router, Bluetooth, 5 USB 2.0 ports, and a built-in Webcam.

There is even a gaming angle: On paper these new iMacs should have enough power to run some decent new games, thank heavens. We can't wait to see big-time titles like "Call of Duty 4" and "Prey," which are coming soon for Mac.
