Check Out the Cities With the Most Expensive Club Sandwiches
Here are the cities where you may want to pack your own lunch.
May 29, 2014— -- It's not Geneva or Paris -- but the price of a club sandwich in Helsinki have skyrocketed since last year.
The most expensive club sandwiches are found in Geneva, Switzerland, according to travel web site Hotels.com.
The average price of the room-service staple is $32.60.
Using the classic hotel staple of a chicken, bacon, egg, lettuce and mayonnaise sandwich as a barometer of affordability, the Hotels.com Club Sandwich Index (CSI) "offers travelers an indication of the costs associated with their destination of choice."
The average sandwich price is calculated from the real prices paid by guests for a Club Sandwich in 30 hotels in either the capital or an important tourist city in the 28 countries surveyed, across five, four and three-star categories. In total, 840 hotels were canvassed globally.
So where do American cities stack up when it comes to the sammy? New York comes in as the most expensive place to enjoy the club, with an average price of $17.99. But New York didn't even make crack the top 12. Oslo, Tokyo, Rome and others are more expensive when it comes to the priciest sammies.
Club sandwich averages in other major U.S. cities include: San Francisco at $15.44; Washington, D.C. at $15.18; Los Angeles at $14.88; New Orleans at $13.54; Chicago at $13.38; Houston at $13.17; San Diego at $13; Las Vegas at $12.91; and Dallas at $12.06.
The least expensive club sandwich prices in American can be found in Orlando, where the average price is just $10.68.
