Thanksgiving Travel and Weather Forecast for Your Region

Nov. 25, 2013— -- Thanksgiving is almost here and with that turkey dinner comes a side of travel headaches. The powerful winter-like storm that is being blamed for at least eight deaths is marching eastward and threatening the plans of millions of holiday travelers in its path.

As Americans take to the skies, rails and roads the next few days, we'll keep you updated with news from your region on weather, flight delays and cancellations and other travel snarls.

Northeast:

Weather: There is a winter storm watch for W. Va.; Ohio, Pa.; Western N.Y. and Vt. where 1 to 2 feet of snow is possible. Cities included are Pittsburgh, Pa; Erie, Pa.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Rochester, N.Y.; and Burlington, Vt.

Rain is expected Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening from Washington, DC through Boston.

Flights: As of noon today, flights are operating on a normal schedule for Monday and no cancellations have been made for Tuesday and Wednesday flights according to flight-tracking service FlightAware.

Trains: Amtrak is currently running on a normal schedule and expects to do so for the rest of the week. "Engineering crews will be standing by to remedy any potential problems that the weather event may bring," an Amtrak spokesperson told ABC News.

South:

Weather: Monday afternoon into Monday night, the storm system moves east into the Gulf of Mexico where it will pick up moisture and bring 2-3 inches of rain from Houston to New Orleans, Birmingham, Ala. and Atlanta. Minor urban flooding is possible.

Rain is moving into Little Rock today with temps near freezing.

There is an ice storm warning for the North Carolina mountains Monday night into Tuesday morning. Freezing rain is expected in Asheville, N.C.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for ice, sleet and snow Tuesday morning through early afternoon from Georgia to Maryland including, Greensboro, N.C., Roanoke, Va., Charlottesville, Va. and areas immediately west just west of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.

A flood watch has been issued from Louisiana to Mississippi and Georgia including Jackson, Miss. and Atlanta. due to the heavy rain forecast for Monday night an Tuesday.

Roads: Very slick roads are expected west of Little Rock Monday afternoon. Power outages are expected.

Flights: Flight cancellations continue in Dallas Monday, with 180 flights cancelled out of Dallas / Fort Worth according to flight tracking web site FlightAware.

Midwest:

Weather: The majority of the region will have dry weather Tuesday, resulting in favorable travel conditions. In Chicago, a major hub, less than an inch of snow is expected Monday, with possible flurries Wednesday. Minneapolis/St. Paul travelers should expect dry weather until Friday. Rain in Indianapolis Monday will turn to flurries in the evening and dry up by Tuesday.

Flights: operating normally across the region with very few cancellations or delays.

West:

Weather: Flagstaff, Ariz., was socked with 11 inches of snow by early Sunday and was expecting at least another inch overnight. Metro Phoenix and other parts of central Arizona received between 1½ to 2½ inches of rain over the course of the storm.

Light snow is expected in Denver, Colo. before dry weather settles in Tuesday.

Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M. were hit with snow over the weekend that led to icy road conditions Monday. Several wind advisories are in effect until 4 p.m. Monday.

Flights: operating on a normal schedule.
