911 Call Shows Mom's Panic When 8-Year-Old Son Stolen From the Driveway
The child was left unattended in the back of his family's vehicle.
— -- A dramatic 911 call captured the panicked moment a California mother realized her 8-year-old son was missing after an alleged robber drove away with the family’s car with him inside.
“Someone stole my car and my son was inside of it,” Suzanne Guzman says in the recording of the 911 call. “My husband had just put him in there ... maybe a minute.”
Guzman’s husband, Paul Guzman, had placed their son, Brock, in the family’s car outside their Fairfield, California, home around 4:45 a.m. Monday to take him to school.
Paul Guzman left the car running and made a quick trip back inside the house. When he returned, the car was gone.
“My baby was gone and there was a bike there,” Suzanne Guzman said. “I knew someone took my baby.”
Authorities issued an Amber Alert for Brock and scoured the streets for any sign of the third-grader.
Hours later, just after 8 a.m., police received a call from a citizen who spotted the 2001 Toyota Corolla parked on a nearby street, according to ABC affiliate KGO.
Police found the car roughly two miles away from the Guzman’s home, with Brock safe and asleep inside. The alleged abductor had abandoned the car.
“Well, he woke up and the guy looked back I guess and said 'I didn't know you were in the car,' and then pulled over and got out and walked away,” Paul Guzman told reporters.
Fairfield Police took a person of interest into custody Monday on an unrelated charge.
Suzanne Gutman said Monday she plans to keep her son close now that he is safely home.
“It was absolutely amazing. I was just overjoyed with goose bumps,” she said of the reunion. “I'm going to get in bed with my son and we're going to snuggle and watch a lot of movies.”
